Certification and Accreditation

Introductory

In this section, the rules and regulations regarding Certification and Accreditation of third parties that render critical services to Operators.

Certification

Effectively, certification is the third-party confirmation via audit of an organisation's systems or products, whilst accreditation is independent third-party recognition that an organisation has the competence and impartiality to perform specific technical activities such as certification, testing and inspection. Certification provides written assurance that a person, product, or process conforms to specified requirements and standards.

Accreditation

Accreditation is generally considered to be a higher level of recognition than certification. Accreditations are given to companies, organizations, or institutions whose operations meet a set of predetermined standards. An accreditation will often legitimize an organization within an industry. Certifications, on the other hand, are provided to the individual.

It is mandatory to register with CEG any third parties rendering services to the Operator

The Operator is required to register every Third Party rendering a service to the Operator for Certification purposes. The information required for Certification shall include at minimum:

(a) the nature of services rendered to the Operator;

(b) the formation date of the Third Party;

(c) the statutory address of the Third Party and contact person;

(d) the UBO’s of the Third Party;

(e) a breakdown of estimated fees;

(f) whether or not the Third Party is affiliated to the Operator.

The Operator shall only be allowed to avail itself of any services rendered by a Third Party that has (at minimum) been Certified. Only a Third Party that is Fit and Proper shall be certified.
